*Job Title: *Child Advocate

*Position: *Full-Time

*Starting Pay: *$18.00

*Schedule: *Monday-Friday 12:00pm – 8:30pm_*(evening shift)*_

*Reports to:* Director of Advocacy

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

Providing direct services and comprehensive assistance as a liaison to children who have experienced trauma and may try to obtain justice for those who are victims of physical, emotional, mental or sexual abuse, who have witnessed acts of violence, been neglected or have been injured in some way. Will respond to crisis situations and provide accompaniment information, and support, when requested, in cases of criminal justice involvement. The child advocate will help provide access to resources or services to help benefit lives with education, childcare and proper parenting skills and that recommendation options are in the best interest of the child.

*The Child Advocate will:*

● Monitor and evaluate the child advocacy program effectiveness to meet the needs of clients.

● Create communication strategies to promote and encourage participation in child advocacy.

● Consulting with other agencies and professionals, creating formal reports and arranging additional services, such as treatment for substance abuse, parenting classes, foster home placement and adequate child care.

● Coordinate and participate in the responsibilities for ensuring the welfare, safety, and rights of children.

● Provide crisis intervention and help provide emergency services to children who are victims of domestic violence or abuse.

● Ensure consistency with deliverables.

● Maintain the confidentiality of their clients information.

● Other duties as assigned.

*Qualifications:*

● Must pass a background check, drug test, central registry screening

● 3-5 years professional experience in advocacy, or similar roles.

● Must be able to work some evenings and be on-call to respond to emergency calls.

● Understand different aspects of social work and the laws.

● Strong written and verbal communication skills.

● Demonstrate effective communication.

● Proficient computer skills.

● Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

● Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively.

●Must be willing to adhere to the philosophy of the WBCWS, Inc., and the use of culture in healing.

● Must demonstrate on-going efforts to actively pursue a non-violent lifestyle.

● Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of any and all shelter residents, and drop-in clients accessing other shelter services.

● Must abide by the policies and guidelines of the WBCWS, Inc.

● Must have a South Dakota Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
